Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself or something that would surprise us.
Who me???? I am just a regular lady J, just in case you haven’t met one of those lately I will be a little more specific…
I am a Nigerian descendant American, born in Brooklyn, NY, but moved to Houston when I was 11. Always been very physically active and enjoy outdoor activities. I have a bit of an adventurous streak and I am striving to be the best human being I can be (all with the help of the AMAZING people I am blessed to have in my life!!)
How and when were you introduced to Behemoth?
I came across Behemoth’s website in Sept 2017 as I was searching for Crossfit gyms in the Cypress/Katy area, my sister recommended I try Crossfit because she thought I would enjoy it due to my athletic background. I had heard of Crossfit, but I didn’t know much about it. All of this coincided with a personal search I had started a few years prior as I began thinking about what I wanted my personal fitness to look like.
What are you most proud of, physically, mentally or both since beginning with us?
I am proud of my physical improvements, others noticed it first then I did, my body composition is changing; I heard about it, but it is cool to witness it happen to yourself. I am also pleasantly surprised at some mental improvements since my time at Behemoth such as increased patience with myself, being more in touch with my body, learning how to pace myself (although I am usually more cautious than the coaches allow ;))
What has been your biggest, yet most rewarding obstacle to overcome, whether in the gym or on your health journey to date?
Well, I think I am still working on that one. My diet, now, in all areas there is room for improvement and I take steps all the time. I think it is interesting that I have so much discipline in coming to the gym and doing the work, but then struggle with something like eating. I don’t beat myself up about it though, I know it will come together, I am conscious of the direction I want to go in.
Why Behemoth?
WHY NOTBEHEMOTH???? Lol! As I mentioned earlier, me coming across Behemoth and meeting with Aja and Johnny for the initial interview to see if we would be a good fit was like going to a tailor looking to have a specific outfit made and not only could the tailor make it to your exact specs, but they had done it before!!! I was very impressed with the intention and specificity of what Behemoth was offering. I left that meeting excited, even thought “sounds perfect, let’s see if they can deliver”, not in a way that I felt it was a sales pitch because all of my interactions with the staff have been genuine, but more really hoping that it was really possible to have what I was looking for (and so close to home). Not to mention I love the atmosphere of the gym, it is an old-school get-it-in gym, no fancy AC and high polished weights, just plain ol’ work elements and BIG ASS FANS. And finally the gym community is great, everyone appreciates and respects one another, we are welcoming and encouraging. No matter where you start you see so many examples of how far you can go and you have a built in cheer squad.
What next? What are you excited about pursuing here in the future?
Me? Gosh, the future is so vast, but I am excited every day to be on the journey to self-improvement. Even in the short time I have been with Behemoth, I have changed in unexpected ways that were different than the goals I had in my head. I like this turn out way better, so, I will just keep working and see what other surprises are in store for me while I am at Behemoth.
