Who are you? Tell us a little about yourself? Maybe something that would surprise us :)
My name is Maria Isabel Ochoa Perez. Most know me as Marisa Ochoa (which I prefer and love) Something that would surprise you is that I was born and raised in a small town in Michoacan, Mexico. I traveled to California after graduating High School and decided to stay. I moved to Houston in 1999 (Don’t try to do the math there) I met my husband Alex in 2004 and 10 years later in 2014 he finally convinced me to marry him Together we have 2 wonderful boys, Sebastian and Santiago. After working for almost 19 years in administration, in 2019 I decided to give my career a little switch entering the education field. This will be my first year as an elementary teacher. Wish me luck there! How long have you been a Behemoth member and how did you hear about us?
I did drop ins here and there for a couple of years, and officially became a member in November of last year (2022). I heard about Behemoth from my husband. He became a member in 2019 and he loved it from the beginning. At the time he joined Behemoth, I was a member at another gym. I decided to give Behemoth a try after seeing how much my husband loved and enjoyed the coaching there. What are some of your proudest accomplishments since starting with us? (this can be physical, mental, emotional, don’t just think inside the gym, this can be anything you truly feel great about!)
Behemoth has impacted my lifestyle in MANY ways!! Although it took me a while to learn and get used to all the movements (especially those dear landmines) and the tempo work, it all makes sense outside the gym. Most of the coaches have heard my “What is the point of this?” or “Who came up with this and why?” (Except coach Aja and coach Aryan) You will hear me complain, but you will never see me give up. Behemoth has helped me to be more resilient, more disciplined, and I feel stronger than I could’ve possibly thought. My proudest accomplishment has definitely been to be able to lift some heavy sh.. in the safest way.Talk a little bit about your journey, who were you or what were you struggling with before starting with Behemoth and who are you now since being a part of this gym culture and community?
After Covid we set up our own gym in our garage, I loved and enjoyed working out on my own. I still occasionally throw a garage workout. However, after a few months of doing CrossFit on my own, I started feeling unmotivated, and was losing muscle mass which was hurting me because I had worked so hard to gain it. I was also losing the form in my movements and felt like I could use some help. Now I look forward to doing the workouts at Behemoth. I love the community and the gym culture, I even do some of the workouts barefooted (IYK me, you know I don’t like being barefooted, unless I’m walking on the beach) I appreciate how the coaches are always making sure I perform the movements correctly and safely. What is your favorite part about Behemoth and what keeps you coming back?
My favorite part about Behemoth is the coach’s knowledge and their goal to have us perform the workouts in the safest way. I keep coming back because they make me feel they care about every one of us. I also keep coming back because at Behemoth I was taught how to perform the movements correctly which resulted in better outcomes. I like the flow of the classes from the warm ups, to the workouts and the stretching. When I’m at Behemoth I truly feel at home. What is one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out with Behemoth or maybe hesitant in starting out?
I would say trust the process. Behemoth is truly the best gym to be at, and it does not take too long for you to realize that. The coaches will make sure that you always perform your best.Behemoth Mad Lib
